Hindi words for food and eating

Most of your early listening practice happens at a table. Somebody is putting more on your plate, and somebody else is telling them you already have enough. These are the words in the middle of that.

Describing it

मीठा

तीखा
teekhaa
hot with chilli
गरम
garam
warm or hot in temperature
ठंडा
ThanDaa

तीखा and गरम are not the same thing. तीखा is the chilli. गरम is the temperature. Mixing them up is how you end up being handed a cup of tea when you meant to say the curry is too spicy.

Asking for something

bahut achchhaa hai
This is very good (what people actually say)

Refusing once is not usually taken as a refusal. Say बस with a smile, twice, and mean it the second time. That exchange is its own small piece of the culture, and going through it is how you learn the rhythm of the house.
